Girls Cricket
The MCA is extremely keen to both grow the female game and also provide an enjoyable environment for girls to get involved in cricket. It forms a major part of our development programme and we have come up with a girls-only cricket pathway to ensure that girls can get started in cricket at any age group.
SmashPlay
SmashPlay is offered for girls from the ages of 5-8 (years 1-4). SmashPlay is a game-based program aimed at developing basic cricket skills, having fun and enjoyment, but also based on three values. Those three values are; cooperation, support, and honesty. At SmashPlay we play different fun, enjoyable, and engaging games every week. Keep an eye out on the Manawatu Cricket Association Facebook page and website for dates and times for term 1 2024.
Year 4/5/6 and Year 7/8 Competitions
We have set up a junior club called MCA Girls where girls have the opportunity to register to play in girls-only teams. They play in the normal junior cricket grades against the boys but we match their ability with their grade. The girls we have had in these teams over the last few years have really enjoyed the chance to play in female teams as opposed to joining in with the boys.
A reminder that the MCA Girls Club is a club like any other and relies on enthusiastic members of the public for coaching and managing. These girls thrive under female coaching and we are on the hunt for interested ladies. Full training and support will be given to anyone willing to put their hand up.
There are two grades your daughter can play in when they sign up for the MCA Girls Club, these are:
Incredi-Ball - Training on Friday afternoons 3:30pm - 4:30pm with games on Saturday mornings from 8.00am - 11:30 am
Hardball - Training on Friday afternoons 3:30pm - 4:30pm with games on Saturday mornings from 8.00am - 11:30am

Secondary School Girls
The Secondary School competition is run on a Wednesday evening with School teams taking part in T20 fixtures. This is an entry-level competition and provides a great platform for our secondary school girls to try cricket and play alongside their mates.
All schools in Manawatu are invited to enter a team, so talk to your sports coordinator and get a team together.
Women's Cricket
The MCA are proud to offer Women's Club Cricket this season, there are a number of clubs joining to support teams.
This is a great opportunity for new and existing players, if you haven't played before, don't be scared to sign up, you will have all the support you need to succeed.
The club competition details are as follows:
Games: 9 a-side competition
Locations: Home and away games for clubs
(Hokowhitu Park, Timona Park, Kowhai Park, and Dannevirke Sports Club)
Times: All games will start at 1.00pm on a Saturday afternoon.
Competition Games start 3rd February 2024.
